SERVE
(1 Peter 4:10-11)
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
God, the creator of the universe, has called us to be part of his work to bring justice and kindness to his creation. What a joy and privilege! But the work ahead is challenging, too, and we’re grateful that God is with us.
Lord, help us to embrace your calling for our lives with equal parts fervor, wisdom, and humility.
Lamb's Basket
Lamb's Basket provides food to needy families of Henrico County. Those in need are referred to Lamb's Basket by area churches and local organizations. It is located at 8419 Oakview Avenue, Henrico, 23228.
Skipwith UMC volunteer day at Lamb's Basket is on the first Thursday of each month from 9 AM - 12 Noon. There are an assortment of ways that you can volunteer to help with such as stocking shelves and filling client bags.
Angel Giving Tree
Every year Skipwith UMC supports a Skipwith Elementary School family for Christmas. It is our opportunity to live our faith by following the teachings of Jesus; to help our brothers and sisters in need.
By selecting an ornament from our Giving Tree, you help make Christmas brighter for a family in need.
The Laurel's
Join us every Thursday at 2 PM as Skipwith leads a heartfelt Bible Study, offering residents a chance to connect, reflect, and share in the comfort of faith and community. We believe in fostering a warm and supportive time of study for all our residents.
Heart Havens Meadowbrook House
Heart Havens empowers adults with developmental disabilities to live and thrive in their community. Skipwith has adopted the Meadowbrook House in Glen Allen that houses 4 young men. We celebrate birthdays, holidays, help with yard work, and sponsor the purchase of Christmas gifts for the residents and staff.
Backpack Program
For families who rely on weekday meal assistance, weekends present an even greater challenge. Studies continually show that hungry children have lower test scores, diminished learning capacity, increased behavior problems, and increased tardiness and absences.
Skipwith UMC is working with school staff to provide weekend food packs for children who have been identified as needy recipients. Kits are packed by church volunteers and delivered to the school on Friday of each week to go home in the students’ backpacks. Weekend food is supplied to children that are identified by the guidance counselor as in need. You can help by purchasing food, laying out the food, and packing the food.
Utila, Honduras
Skipwith’s largest international mission is its partnership with the Methodist school on the island of Utila, Honduras. We support them with our monetary gifts.
